K & K Machine Shop, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Donnie L. Kuykendoll. A young machinist with big dreams, Donnie first purchased two used pieces of machinery and contracted out for work in his father's workshop in his spare time. Within six months, he quit his job at a local machine shop to work on his fledging business full time. Soon, he had more work than he could handle alone. He hired several other machinists to work for him, bought two more used machines, and took on more work.
When the workshop quickly became overcrowded, Donnie purchased ten acres nearby and built a small shop. He also purchased several more machines, and incorporated the business. In less than two years, the new shop was once again out of space, and an addition was built bringing K & K Machine Shop to 2,500 square feet in size. In the early 1980's, Donnie purchased his first CNC machining center. Although a considerable investment, this new technology allowed K & K to run larger quantities of parts with greater precision, all in less time, increasing productivity as well as saving the customer money. Two additional CNC machines were soon added.
Although K & K worked with several amusement parks throughout the 80's, in the early 90's, K & K became involved producing amusement park replacement parts nationwide, helping them reduce maintenance costs by offering superior parts at a competitive price, and without the shipping delays and duty charges from overseas.
By 1996, K & K was once again out of room. Although in a rural area when built, the area was quickly becoming crowded with sub-divisions and small retail stores, and Donnie felt the area was no longer conducive to a manufacturing facility. So, K & K purchased six and one half acres in the Villa Rica Industrial Park, about 10 miles away. The area was chosen for its close proximity to I-20, which leads into Atlanta. In October of 1998, the new 25,000 square foot facility was completed. Complete with an overhead crane, loading dock, and a climate controlled inspection room, it is our hope that this facility will serve us as well as our customers for years to come.
